Former Zambian President, Kenneth Kaunda is dead.

He was reportedly hospitalized on Monday at a military hospital in the capital Lusaka.

On Thursday, the founding Father of Zambia breathed his last at the military hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia.

The 97-year-old deceased ruled Zambia from 1964, when the southern African nation won its independence from Britain, until 1991, and afterwards become one of Africa’s most committed activists against HIV/AIDS.

“I am sad to inform (members) we have lost Mzee. Let’s pray for him,” Kambarage (son of the deceased) announced via the late president’s Facebook page.
