NANS President tours projects at Kogi Poly, passes vote of confidence on Rector

President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo has charged state and the federal government to be more proactive in providing a robust security architecture for the safety and well being of Nigerian Students in tertiary institutions across the country.

The students leader gave the charge at the campus of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja when he led other members of the Association to the institution on a courtesy visit.

He stated that in the past, schools and tertiary institutions of higher learning use to be the safest places for people to seek refuge in times of trouble

He lamented that nowadays incessant attacks on campuses across the country has become the order of the day, saying the situation has called for concern from all stakeholders.

The NANS President called on Governors where schools have been closed to be proactive in providing adequate security for students to enable them have access to quality education under a safe atmosphere.

He therefore, on behalf of the entire students of Nigeria at home and those in diaspora passed a vote of confidence on the Rector of the Polytechnic Dr Usman Ogbo for his excellent performance within few years as the head of the institution,

He commended the management of the Polytechnic for providing infrastructure especially hostels which he said would enhance the welfare of students.

The NANS President appealed to security agents to end the incessant kidnapping of students in schools, assuring that that the association would in the month of October organize security summit to brainstorm on the likely solutions to end the menace of security challenges on campuses and the country at large.

Speaking, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Usman Ogbo described the visit of NANS President as historic, saying his belief that students deserved better treatment as critical stakeholders in an academic environment has endeared him to all students of the institution.

He attributed all the achievements recorded so far by him to the support and encouragement given by Governor Yahaya Bello.

He described Governor Bello as an exceptional leader who is passionate about development.

On the issue of cultism and other social vices in the institution, the Rector said the management would continue to reform the deviant students , stressing that those found to be incorrigible would certainly be shown the way out of the institution.
