Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello Saturday presented staff office to 104 traditional rulers recently upgraded in the state.
Speaking at the occasion held at the President Muhammadu Buhari Civic centre in Lokoja, Governor Bello advocated for deliberate inclusion of traditional rulers in governance to guarantee peace and development.
He said the traditional rulers are closer to their people and would perform better when given define roles in the society.
While reiterating government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in of citizens, Governor Bello sought for more cooperation form the monarchs in peace and security in their domains.
In a goodwill message, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar appealed to government to continue to prioritize security and welfare of the people.
Earlier in an address, Kogi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat urged the traditional rulers not to toy with the values and custom of their people as they would be held accountable for breach of peace in their domains.
31 first class chiefs, 30 second class chiefs as well as 43 third class chiefs totalling 104 were presented with their staff of office.
