Meet The Ebira-Born Professor Who Produced 54 Postgraduates In 40 Years, Professor Okatahi Angela Orengwu

Prof. Angela Orengwu Okatahi- The Ometere of Ebiraland, was the first female to have obtained Ph.D., consequently a professor in Ebiraland.

She has a BA, M.Ed, Ph.D. She is an Educationist, born June 1,1950, Okene, Kogi State; married to Stephen S. Okatahi in 1971, has three sons, two daughters.

Education : Roman Catholic School, Okene, 1957-60, Holy Rosary Convent Primary School, 1961-63, Holy Rosary College, 1964-68, Advanced Teachers’ College, Kano, 1972-75, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1976-82, Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA, 1982-84.

Prof. Orengwu spent over forty years in active service to humanity both in Nigeria and abroad and has produced 54 Postgraduates in 40 Years among which are professors and senior administrators in various institutions in Nigeria and abroad.

The Academic Giant took a bow from active service in 2020, having attained the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Prof. Angela Okatahi runs a community-based service under the name – Okatahi Foundation, which offers, among other humanitarian services award of scholarships to indigent students and empowerment of youths and widows.

Prof. Angela Okatahi said, ”Where ever I went, north or south, east or west, especially at the airports, someone would always walk up to me and say, Prof, l know you do not reçognise me anymore. You taught me at Ahmadu Bello University many years ago. For me, this is an earthly reward that cannot be quantified or bought with money in the market.”
