Eight security personnel comprising of three Police Officers and five local vigilantes have been reportedly killed by yet to be identified gunmen in Ajaokuta, Kogi state .
The officers were said to be on the trail of a criminal gang that operates at a farm location in Ajaokuta on Saturday
According to the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area acting on intelligence deployed the security personnel to go after the criminals but they were ambushed and killed
The source said the corpses of the slain officers have been deposited at the morgue in the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
Confirming the incident via telephone, the Kogi state security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omadara (rtd) said the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello would not relent in its effort at wiping out criminals anywhere in the state.
He said government would do everything within it’s power to ensure that the perpetuators of this heinous crime are brought to justice.
The State Security Adviser who expressed the readiness of the state government to combat crimes and criminalities, warned all criminal minded people in the state to have a change of mind before the long arm of the law catches up with them
He said all proactive measures will be taken to forstall the reoccurrence of the sad incident
